Francisco Sanchez often stops for coffee at the Wawa on Garrisonville Road in Stafford. That’s how he happened to be there when he bought a Dominion Dollars ticket from the Virginia Lottery.

When the Stafford man went out to his car to scratch the ticket, he soon discovered he’d won the game’s $1 million top prize.

Dominion Dollars is one of dozens of scratcher games offered by the Virginia Lottery. It features prizes ranging from $30 up to that $1 million top prize. Sanchez had the choice of taking the full $1 million prize in annual payments over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $625,000 before taxes. He chose the cash option.

This is the first top prize claimed in the game, which means two more top prizes are unclaimed. The chances of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,060,800. The chances of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 3.06.

All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia.
